The Sims 4 cheats | All cheat codes and debug options for every occasion

Here are all the cheats you might need to either create chaos or enjoy a more relaxing experience in The Sims 4. Cheats are a beloved part of The Sims series, making it nearly impossible to picture the game without them. The Sims 4 continues this tradition, offering a vast array of cheat codes and debug interactions that allow you to manipulate more aspects of your Sims’ lives than the game typically permits.

How to Use Sims 4 Cheats

Opening the Cheat Console

  1. On PC: Press Ctrl + Shift + C to launch the console. A text will appear in the upper left corner of the screen, allowing you to type and enter your cheat commands.
  2. On Xbox One or PS4: Hold down all four shoulder buttons simultaneously to open the console.

Enabling Debug Cheats

Many of the cheats listed here require you to enable testing or debug cheats within the game before use. In my experience, keeping debug cheats enabled in the background doesn’t affect your gameplay negatively. It’s a helpful feature, especially when you want to cheat quickly and without hassle.

To activate debug cheats, type the following into the cheat console: `testingcheats true`. A notification will appear below the console, confirming that cheats are now enabled. You can disable them by entering `testingcheats false`.

Sims 4 Money Cheats

For many players, myself included, The Sims feels incomplete without money cheats. Even those who usually avoid cheat codes often don’t hesitate to use a few of these when starting out.

  1. kaching: Adds 1,000 Simoleons to the active household’s funds.
  2. Rosebud: Nostalgic fans of the original The Sims will be pleased to see this cheat make its comeback in The Sims 4. It functions the same as kaching, adding 1,000 Simoleons to the active household’s funds.
  3. motherlode: Provides a hefty 50,000 Simoleons to the active household’s funds.
  4. Money [number]: Adjusts the active household’s funds to the specified amount.
  5. FreeRealEstate on: Allows all residential lots to be moved into without financial cost. (Apartment deposits become free, though rent still applies.)

Modifying a Sim’s Appearance

Modifying a Sim’s Appearance

In The Sims 4, using a mirror or dresser lets you access a limited version of Create-A-Sim (CAS) anytime, allowing you to alter a Sim’s outfits, makeup, accessories, hair color, and style. Since Patch 113, you can also adjust a Sim’s likes and dislikes.

However, there are restrictions. Through a mirror, you can’t change a Sim’s body shape, facial structure, skin tone, eye color, traits, aspirations, gender customization, and more.

To unlock full access to CAS and modify your SIM without limitations, enable debug cheats. Enter `CAS.fulleditmode` in the cheats console and then Shift + Click on your Sim. Look for the CAS Full Edit Mode option, which will take the entire household back to the comprehensive character creator.

Altering a Sim’s Personality and Character Values

Most cheats in The Sims 4 are related to character values. Many of these aspects can’t be changed even in CAS Full Edit Mode. If you want to revamp a character’s Simology, check the table below for potential cheats.

Cheat Code | Description | Variants

fillmotive motive_[need]: Instantly maximizes the specified need for the active Sim. Variants include:

  • fillmotive motive_Bladder
  • fillmotive motive_Energy
  • fillmotive motive_Fun
  • fillmotive motive_Hunger
  • fillmotive motive_Hygiene
  • fillmotive motive_Social

traits.equip_trait Trait_[traitname] traits.remove_trait Trait_[traitname]: Adds or removes the selected Trait for the active Sim.

You need to type in the name of the Trait as it appears in-game, but with no spaces, e.g.: traits.equip_trait Trait_ArtLover traits.remove_trait Trait_MusicLover

modifyrelationship [Sim1 fullname] [Sim2 fullname] [value] [relationship]: Establishes the relationship values between the two specified Sims.

Sims 4 Build Mode Cheats

The Sims 4’s build mode is celebrated as the best in the franchise, despite mixed reviews in other areas. However, some restrictions can limit your creativity. Use the following cheats to expand your design possibilities:

  1. bb.moveobjects: This cheat lifts placement restrictions on objects, allowing for more creative builds. While it might lead to setups that Sims can’t interact with, you’ll often find they can still engage with these objects unless completely obstructed.
  2. bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement: Unlock all career rewards in build/buy mode. Note that it doesn’t affect career rewards in Create-A-Sim.
  3. bb.showhiddenobjects: Access all debug items in buy mode by typing ‘debug’ into the build/buy search bar. Although items like fish and plants may not function as usual, they serve decorative purposes. Be patient, as the search will show many items with similar names.
  4. bb.showliveeditobjects: Unlock environmental objects typically seen in out-of-bound areas during regular gameplay, such as vehicles. These objects are decorative and require the show hidden objects cheat to be active first.
  5. bb.enablefreebuild: Edit hidden lots, which include inaccessible locations from the map like secret lots, professional workplaces, supernatural sub-worlds, and Mt. Komorebi’s mountain peak. Enter this cheat on any lot your active Sim(s) are visiting to gain full build/buy control. Note that it doesn’t allow editing of non-lot areas, such as public paths or shared spaces in apartment buildings.

Additionally, by holding Shift + [ or Shift + ], you can resize objects, a useful hidden feature when building. Resized objects keep their functionality, though the Sims’ animations might not match the new size, resulting in amusing or unsettling scenes.

Lastly, clicking on a roof and using Shift + C provides more flexibility in shaping roof designs.

Sims 4 Camera Cheats

These features enhance camera control rather than functioning as traditional cheats, offering more freedom for capturing photos or gameplay clips without the game’s UI. Note that active Sim control isn’t possible while using these features:

  1. Press Tab to toggle Cameraman Mode, allowing you to zoom in/out extensively and pan to typically hidden areas of the neighborhood.
  2. Press Shift + Tab to enter First Person Mode for a Sim’s-eye view. While your perspective follows your Sim’s head movements, you can rotate freely, creating unique viewing angles.

Sims 4 Quality of Life Cheats

The Sims 4 is brimming with debug cheats that can enhance your gameplay experience. Once you enable testing cheats, as mentioned in the Character cheats section, you’ll discover numerous objects in the game that reveal additional options with a shift-click. While there are too many to detail comprehensively, here are a few of my favorites:

Teleport Here

Sims have a knack for getting stuck, whether they’ve glitched into a shrub or suddenly lost the ability to navigate stairs. Fortunately, if the Sim belongs to your active household, you can avoid drastic measures like uprooting gardens or demolishing walls. Simply Shift + Click on the ground and select “Teleport Here” to resolve the issue swiftly. This gives you time to troubleshoot their pathfinding without worrying about their needs in the meantime.

Eco Lifestyle: Instantly Repeal NAP

If you have the Eco Lifestyle Expansion Pack, you’ve likely noticed that some Neighborhood Action Plans (NAPs) are fantastic, while others are less so. Take the “Sharing is Caring” NAP, for instance—it allows NPCs to take almost anything not secured, and sometimes even things that are. (I still can’t fathom how Francine Spencer managed to fit an entire counter into her pocket, but she did, and now I need to replace it.) Any NAP can become a nuisance if it’s voted in against the theme of your roleplay.

Though you can repeal unwanted NAPs through gameplay, it’s a tedious process without guaranteed success. Thankfully, with testing cheats enabled, you can shift-click on your active household’s mailbox and choose “Instantly Repeal NAP.” A menu will let you select which active NAPs to eliminate. Remove “Sharing is Caring” and live undisturbed, assured that your neighbor won’t casually walk away with your kitchen sink.

Additionally, the same mailbox debug menu allows you to “Instantly Enact NAP,” enabling you to immediately set all four NAPs for the neighborhood to your preferences, eliminating the risk that the game will impose an undesirable one.
